LOMBARD, Ill. – A safety inspection turned up violations of federal workplace safety standards at a metal coating company in suburban Lombard.
The U.S. Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced the violations Friday. OSHA levied fines totaling $275,000 on Metal Improvement Co. The company does business as E/M Coating Services.
Inspectors found safety problems including electrical hazards, improper oxygen cylinder storage and fire hazards in a spray booth. Required emergency eyewash and shower facilities were missing.
The company has 15 business days to comply, request a conference or contest the citations.
The company employs 20 workers in Lombard.
It’s unfortunate that in that small of a company apparently safety was not a priority. I am sure that money for a qualified Safety Manager most likely played into this and it’s a shame.
