Fire Prevention Week in Orland Park, Illinois

Orland
Sparky the Fire Dog® is “Pet of the Week” in Orland, Illinois, and is helping the Orland Fire Protection District celebrate Fire Prevention Week.

“He’s extraordinarily active with public education events,” said department Public Education Coordinator Kathy Donofrio, adding that cadet Joe Braasch has helped Sparky come alive. “Sparky teaches children how to be safe by not getting burned or hurt by fire and how to stay injury-free.” She says that Sparky also teaches children to wear helmets while biking and skateboarding, wearing seat belts in the car and safe cooking habits.

Sparky took up residence in Orland Park last year, and since then, has been to at least 25 events throughout the village, said Donofrio.
