The anti-bullying movement has led to a lot of amazing and inspirational videos over the last few years, but this may be one of the best. Stop whatever you’re doing and watch this beautiful animated video centered around a spoken word poem written by Shane Koyczan titled “To This Day,” about how it feels to be the victim of bullying. My stone cold heart normally won’t let me feel emotion, but I actually got goosebumps at three separate points while watching this. Seriously, it’s really that good.
According to the poet’s website, the video is the result of the To This Day Project which seeks “to further explore the profound and lasting impact that bullying can have on an individual.” And it certainly succeeds in its mission! The piece combines the work of many different animators and motion artists, all of whom submitted their entries, creating stylistically unique segments that flow together into a one emotionally charged narrative.
I love seeing video created to compliment a great audio narrative, and the animation here certainly lives up to the standards of the original poem (not an easy task). The dreamy quality reminds me a bit of a video we posted last month, “the Scared is scared,” a six-year-old’s vision of what a movie should be about. And to see more work or learn more about the To This Day Project, you can visit their Vimeo page by clicking here. In conclusion: check this video out, you won’t regret it.
Did you see the movie/documentary on bullying? I think it just came out so I want to check it out.
