The Biden administration laid out a sweeping strategy on Monday for grappling with widespread contamination from toxic “forever chemicals” that aims to stop future contamination at its source.
The roadmap for dealing with the chemicals, known as PFAS, represents a marked contrast from that of the Trump administration, which struggled to reassure communities and legislators — both Democratic and Republican — that it was proactively dealing with the problem, after placing chemicals industry officials in key regulatory positions and crafting major rules in line with much of industry’s requests.
